Paradise On A Golf Course

One would think it was “paradise on a golf course” when playing in Las Vegas and on the numerous golf courses this “sin city” boasts. Majestic rolling hills cradle some of the courses along with rolling fairways and rising and falling greens that create hidden challenges even for the most talented golfer On any golf course, prominent white sand bunkers and water features are obstacles to be tamed and with tough pin positions, the challenge invites even the most undaunted golf enthusiast to rely on personal strategy and not distance. Of course the primary goal with any popular golf course is to see to it that your golf experience is very pleasant and that customer service is uniquely offered by a professional staff ensuring events are run smoothly.

Almost all golf courses have a large practice facility, a pro-shop, as well as a place to sit and relax along with complimentary bar and food services. Social outings and corporate events are tailor made to groups requesting special treatment and the pro shop staff is willing to offer gift ideas for your family, friends and clients. Golf shops are known for their quality, value and style and offer full range golf accessories. Name brand clubs, golf balls, ball markers as well as fashionable clothing can be purchased with the optimistic viewpoint that any handicap can be lowered.

There are numerous packages offered by golf courses. With an exclusive corporate package, a game of golf, hard earned awards and private tournament menus, in addition to the facilities, will sell the prospective golf player to try his abilities on any course promising to supply their “out of this world” amenities.

There are courses noted for their golf clubhouses which can include a meeting/banquet area, as well as men and women’s locker rooms. Some clubhouses feature private patios with fireplaces, allowing a panoramic view of the surrounding area while enjoying an extensive culinary selection ranging from pleasing-to-the-palate buffets all the way to sophisticated dining experiences.

For that special occasion where the “I do’s” and the desire to live happily ever after becomes a reality, there are golf course weddings in Las Vegas and all the trimmings that go along with it. Indoor or outdoor services are available and some wedding packages will include an arbor, chairs, place settings, music and even the all important rehearsal for any last minutes changes. Complete with made to order ice sculptures, hors d’oeuvres, appetizers and a variety of traditional meals will round out this special day with family and friends. The only thing not on the menu is the promised weather forecast but even then accommodations are available to assure your delightful day doesn’t become a drowning experience.

Pack your golf clubs, your family, friends, or coworkers and “head for paradise on a golf course.” Your pet unfortunately will have to stay at home. Whether this is for pleasure or a life altering experience, your “fun in the sun” will prove to be a memorable experience as you challenge yourself on the many
golf courses begging to be conquered.

The Golf Greens of Las Vegas

Welcome to Las Vegas, the Entertainment Capital of the World, with its casinos, music acts and… golf? Oh yes, it’s true! Though well known for its fantastic casinos, Las Vegas also has great courses – heaven for the avid golfer.

Speaking of – hi, I’m the avid golfer. I had an unexpected windfall early last year that gave me enough money to take some time off. I didn’t take the whole year, but my wife and I run our own business providing fishing expeditions, so all I had to do was leave instructions with our manager.

My wife, who loves slot machines, wanted to go to a casino near our home – Missouri, where nothing ever happens. Instead, I surprised her with tickets to Las Vegas, where we spent four wonderful, fun-filled months. She played at the casinos of course, and I took the longest tour known to man of the greens. I didn’t even have to worry about the Las Vegas golf rates; for the first time in my life, money wasn’t an issue – besides, they really weren’t as expensive as I thought they’d be.

It was beautiful – nothing but the clubs, the green, the wind and me. I spent three days at a golf club that was more like a private club than anything else; the course was amazing. Designed by Palmer, it’s 6,857 yards, has large bunkers and sixty-eight greens. Okay, with the large landing zones and bailout areas, you have to aim at the hazards to hit them, but it was a great place to practice my shots.

One of the other places had three nine-hole layouts; it even had a 28th hole, which came in handy when I made a bet with a fellow player during the original game. Turns out this 28th hole is specifically for settling these types of wagers. When we walked into the clubhouse after the round, the guy at the counter just grinned and pointed.

This golf club was fantastic. It had Bob Cupp designs for mountains, valleys and deserts; the mountain area has a 653-yard third hole and ends with a 616-yard par 5. The third hole is where my opponent and I had our differences and made the bet. No, I won’t tell you what it was about – it’s embarrassing and only happened due to the heat of golfing battle.

After it was over, we both decided that perhaps we should make use of the on-site golf academy and driving range. In other words, we told each other that we weren’t as good as we thought we were – and proved it with the scorecards.

I think I played at over fifteen different clubs. I met five different guys who lived within one hundred miles of me; one just happened to be an instructor. He joked about offering me free golf lessons when we got back, but I’m going to remind him about it. To make the vacation perfect, my wife won enough money that we ended up coming home with more than we spent!

Fans Buy Cubs Jerseys

Midwesterners love their baseball teams. No matter what the weather deals, families are often found at the ball park, decked out in matching Cubs fan gear.

Picture the Wrigley Field ball park, packed with fans, cheering and then moaning as their Chicago Cubs swing at a sinking ball. Mom and Dad wear matching Cubs jerseys, topped by their Chicago Cubs caps, bills turned to the back, while shouting encouragement to their favorite players. Bouncing up and down beside them are the kids, each sporting a Cubs T shirt and cap. The kids may not understand all of the action, but they sure do enjoy the noise of the fans. Where else can a kid let loose all that energetic enthusiasm? This is family activity that spawns a lifetime of happy memories. A tradition of support for their team, that is there for everyone to see in the form of clothing sporting the big red Cubs C.

Midwestern weather is extremely variable. There is a good reason Chicago is called the windy city. A day without a brisk westerly wind provokes television news comments. All summer the possibility of thunderstorms exists almost daily due to heat and humidity. The hardy Cubs fans ignore weather and turn out in droves to support their team. Cooler weather calls for an authentic Cubs sweatshirt over the Cubs jersey. A rain delay only means more time to socialize with other fans also outfitted in Chicago Cubs hats and Cubs jerseys while the ground crews cover the field. Even if the rain lasts for a couple of hours, the hardy fans will stay at the Wrigley Field ball park, secure in the knowledge that their team will make it all exciting. Eventually the thunderstorm passes, the field is uncovered and once again play is underway. This is the stuff of tradition. We look over a sea of fans sporting Chicago Cubs caps. They are sitting on the bleachers munching hotdogs, watching for the errant foul ball that could be the next souvenir, and thoroughly enjoying being alive in the moment that makes each baseball game memorable.

When a game is away, the fans watch from their living room television sets, surrounded by icons of their team. Souvenirs from previous games are often scattered around the house. They provide a happy reminder of all the fun they have had together. There may be a family picture taken at the ball park of everyone decked out in their Cubs jerseys and Chicago Cubs caps, showing off the foul ball they captured.

Being a fan is serious business for the supporters of the Chicago Cubs. Purchasing authentic Cubs gear, and wearing their Cubs jerseys as they go about their daily activities is their way to show their support. When another Cubs fan spots them, there is an instant connection between them, a good feeling as each knows that even if they are strangers to each other, they belong to the society called Chicago Cubs fans.
